It only took about 15 times of me asking. Not sure it was that many, but my amazing wife agreed to my dream of this adventure. We will sail down the Caribbean chain for the next year. We start our journey tomorrow and I am both excited and a little nervous. We will miss our friends, our family and our dog, Burton. We will also miss Colorado and the four seasons. As I think about the trip, I wonder if we have thought of everything, bill payment, mail, how to stay connected, and ... oh yeah ... that tiny detail of learning to sail. I think we are in pretty good shape, but still have some learning to do. After working as a CPA for 36 years, I wanted something that would challenge my mind and keep my learning. I think this journey will do it for both Margie and me.
It is interesting that you can get what you need for the next year in four suitcases. I guess it helps when you are taking just shorts, tee shirts and swimsuits and some parts for the boat. It has been a learning experience and an education in logistics. For all of its knocks on Amazon, it is pretty easy getting stuff from them. I think the drivers knew our address by heart.
We purchased Making Connections in July 2021, which was an adventure in its own right. We had to have the boat surveyed in Puerto Rico, close the transaction while we were in Saint Maarten, go to BVI to make arrangements for the boat to be stored for hurricane season, arrange for the boat to be picked up in USVI and brought to BVI and find someone to get the boat ready for our trip. Each one of those steps had at least 10 steps attached to it. Like I said, a learning experience.
The whole process has been fun and definitely a learning experience. Stay tuned.
